These panels are very pretty. The color is good. I really liked the one on the second page. It looked like the new Jerusalem.
I thought these were fascinating works of art. My favorites were teh first two which appear to depict the fall of teh walls of Jericho. however it was hard to pick favorite as they are all so intrigueing.
The tapestries are quite fascinating. I don’t even want to imagine how much time and effort it must have taken to weave all of them. The artists didn’t censor themselves when it came to displaying violent or catastrophic events.
The interpretation of Heavenly/Celestial Jerusalem on page two of the gallery was quite interesting as it was the subject of one of last week’s readings. The tapestry’s straightforward interpretation stands in contrast to the distorted dimensions used in the images seen throughout the chapter.
They are all quite amazing but what stood out the most was what appears to be a city being destroyed by beasts while humans are overlooking the destruction
Honestly, what stood out to me was that the four horses in the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse look nothing like horses and instead look like horse bodies with large cat heads. It makes it much creepier than just horses, which was likely the artist's intent (otheriwse it would just look like any combat scene, I imagine). This is kind of a shallow response, to be sure, but it truly is what stuck out to me.
These are all so amazingly beautiful. I can't imagine the amount of work put into each of these. It would be awesome to see them in real life. I think the fifth is one of my favorites just because I think it's interesting to look at. I enjoy the style of Death, the horseman. For some reason, the aspect of the four horseman has always been very intruiging to me. Ialso like the scene ofthose being fed to the beasts of the earth. I also was curious about some of the others, such as the sixthone. I wonder how some people interpreted these. For example, who is the man watching on the right side of the panel as Michael and his angels fight the dragon? The time I spent looking at these was time well-spent and enjoyable.
Tazheem, your observation is astute regarding who does the apocalyptic 'dirty work'. Interesting how supernatural beasts/monsters are invoked by the genre to right the wrongs that humans have suffered.
The tapestries are gorgeous. The colors are simple but vibrant and the little details of the pieces make them more interesting. To understand what is going on in the tapestries a person would have to know the text behind it which makes it so much more beautiful.
